šŸ“¢ Navigating 'Evidence Used to Obtain Offer' for UKVI Compliance

Updated: Feb 25

Greetings, everyone! This week, let's delve into the complexities of the "Evidence Used to Obtain Offer" section on the CAS, focusing especially on Child Students under 16 years old attending a day school.

šŸ“ Types of Acceptable Evidence

šŸ†” Identity Verification:

  • Student and parent passport(s), birth certificate, and parental consent letter.

  • Any document not in English or Welsh must be officially translated.

  • For single parents, proof of sole legal custody is required (divorce papers, death certificate, court order, etc.).

šŸŽ„ Student and Parent Interview:

Did you video interview the student with a parent/carer present? Does the student seem genuine? Do they match their passport? How was their behaviour? Keep any interview notes on file.

šŸ’² Financial Viability:

Bank statements showing sufficient living funds (unless exempt) and ability to pay the tuitions fees. Scholarship letter, if applicable.

Ensure the financial documents match with the names on the passports. Finance funds confirmation letter if relying on someone else's funds.

šŸ¤— Care Arrangements:

  • For close relative care, evidence of relationship to the student (birth certificates with matching parent names, for example), consent letter from the intended carer, and parental consent to the intended carer are essential.

  • For private fostering, a letter of acknowledgment from the local authority is necessary.

  • Carers must be either British or have ILR/Settled status (evidence required). The carer cannot be the parent unless the parent is applying for the Parent of a Child at School visa and the child is under the age of twelve.

šŸ„ Tuberculosis Screening

Is the student from a country that UKVI requires them to have a TB certificate? If so, you need the TB certificate.

šŸ›”ļø Documenting Evidence

  • Store all relevant documents in your student file, ready for UKVI inspections.

  • Clearly document how you made the decision to assign the CAS. Simply having a good school report or stating the child will be looked after by Mr or Mrs X is not sufficient.

āš ļø Common Pitfalls

  • Using expired documents.

  • Insufficient funds.

  • Not understanding the care arrangements.

šŸ’” Why This Matters

CAS are invaluable for sponsors, particularly those with limited allocations. A visa refusal due to incorrect or insufficient evidence can have costly repercussions both for you as a sponsor and for the student. Therefore, thorough document checking before assigning a CAS is crucial.
